What’s this? After releasing part one of the album back in January, Sweden’s Benjamin Ingrosso has today returned with ‘En Gång i Tiden’ Part II.
What’s on it? Six tracks, book-ended by an overture and an outro, both of which are instrumental. One of the songs is already familiar to Benjamin’s fans – it’s his cover of ‘Judy Min Vän’ from last year’s Så Mycket Bättre. The other five songs are brand-new and penned by Benjamin himself.
What’s the album like? For the most part, it sounds like you’re listening to a classic album from yesteryear that’s already beloved by generations up and down Sweden – such is the timeless spin he’s put into some of the new songs. ‘Allt Det Vackra’, ‘Stockholm’ and ‘Det Stora Röda Huset’ could well have served as Greatest Hits from some of the Swedish legends that Benjamin was so clearly influenced by growing up, and indeed again while making this album. They already sound like future Allsång På Skansen standards! ‘I Min Lägenhet’ and the title track ‘En Gång i Tiden’, meanwhile, continue with the disco trend that he dabbled with so well in parts of the first section of this album in January. If the other three tracks are Benjamin looking to the past, we hope that these two songs are a glimpse into his near future.
Any highlights? It’s an essential album to take in, enjoy, and keep returning to in its entirety. But if there’s one song in particular on there that’s lit a fire under our day, it’s ‘I Min Lägenhet’!
