One of 2011’s Swedish pop debutantes Mimi Oh has already guaranteed herself an even bigger platform for her music in 2012. She’ll be competing in Melodifestivalen with ‘Det Går För Långsamt’, composed by Niclas Lundin and Anton Malmberg Hård af Segerstad. Before then though, she’s going to be releasing another single to bridge the gap between this year’s ‘1986’ EP era, and next year’s new chapter.
The new single is called ‘Säkerhetsnål’ (Safetypin!), and it’s written by the same two gentlemen behind her Melodifestivalen entry PLUS Linda Sundblad. And we think it’s the perfect progression from her previous sound. By that we mean that it’s still very much got its heart in 80’s synth pop, but at the same time it feels like a much more modern sounding homage to that era than her tracks from earlier this year. It’s a brand new Mimi Oh – but without compromising that unique identity she launched herself and made such an impression with in the early months of this year.
The song itself is a short and sweet (it clocks in at just under 2 minutes and 40 seconds) slice of catchy pop music. It’s uptempo, although starts off as a slow ballad – which makes the ensuing beats all the more exciting!
Quite marvelously, Mimi Oh and her label Lionheart are giving scandipop readers an exclusive listen to a clip of the single ahead of its release in early January.
