We don’t have a habit of following the Junior Eurovision Song Contest (c’mon – even WE have to draw the line somewhere!). However, we always have a passing interest in seeing what the Scandinavian countries choose as the winners of their Junior song contests. Last weekend, Norway had their Junior Melodi Grand Prix, and we were delighted to discover that the winning song is really quite lush!
It’s ‘Trenger Deg’ (‘Need You’) by 12 year old Sval. A beat heavy piano ballad with a gorgeous piano riff running through it. Oh so sweet, but not the saccharine dripping bubblegum ballad that you’d expect from a contest like this. It’s acceptably modern. And hugely enjoyable if you take it for what it is. The Norwegians are clearly fully on board too – not only did they vote it as their winner, they bought it in droves large enough to make it number 1 on iTunes 24 hours later!
You can have a listen to it in full below. We’ve chosen to embed the studio recording, rather than the live version, as it’s much more palatable.
