We’ve gone and put together a Spotify playlist. It’s of a specific flavour of Scandinavian produced pop that we love, from a certain period of time.
The type of ballads and mid-tempo ‘jams’ that flourished in the late 90’s and 00’s thanks to the stranglehold that Scandinavian songwriters had on Western world pop music. From the love songs of Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys, Westlife, 5ive, and Celine Dion that the songwriters of Cheiron mass produced, to the r&b lite tracks that British record labels ordered from Stargate to give to Blue, Hear’Say, Atomic Kitten, S Club 7, and Samantha Mumba, to the rousing and uplifting anthems that Jörgen Elofsson (also formerly of Cheiron) provided for winners of Idol the world over.
Stargate are nowadays more well known for their hits for the likes of Beyonce, Rihanna, and Katy Perry. And while Cheiron no longer exists as a team, its individual songwriters are still making songs for Britney Spears, Ke$ha, P!nk, and Avril Lavigne. But this playlist is intended to be a snapshot for the slow and down-tempo pop songs that soundtracked the radios and charts of the late 90’s and early 00’s – all songs being composed by either Norway’s Stargate (Tor Hermansen and Mikkel Eriksen) or Sweden’s Cheiron (Max Martin, Andreas Carlsson, Kristian Lundin, Jörgen Elofsson, Rami Yacoub, Per Magnusson, and others).
All the songs have a distinctive flavour that we honestly still can’t get enough of these days.
And we’ll definitely be delving into different genres and other periods from the same songwriters for future playlists. They’ve truly left behind a massive legacy of amazing pop, and are still continuing to do so today!
