With the weekend’s Gothenburg shenanigans behind us, we move on to Heat 3 of Melodifestivalen, which will take place in Linköping this Saturday. On names alone, this looks like it’s going to be an even stronger and tougher heat than the previous two, and that’s before we get to the songs themselves. We like a hell of a lot of the artists involved, and most of the songwriters too. So it’s probably going to be agony, come results time on Saturday night. Oh well, that’s entertainment we guess!
Here are the eight artists and songs hoping for success on Saturday night;

Linda Sundblad – ‘Lucky You’ (Linda Sundblad, Johan Bobäck, Fredrik Thomander and Anders Wikström)
Linda follows us last year’s very good ’Manifest’ album with her debut appearance at Melodifestivalen. She describes this as quite Abba, yet true to the sound of her previous record. That’s a YES from us, on both counts!
Simon Forsberg – ‘Tid Att Andas’ (Fredrik Kempe)
Semi famous for his Fame Factory success almost a decade ago, and then last year as Mr Gay Sweden, Simon describes his song as a typical Nordic ballad. That didn’t do Elisabeth Andreassen any favours last week, will Simon fare any better?
Sara Lumholdt – ‘Enemy’ (Niclas Lundin and Anton Malmberg Hård af Segerstad)
Former A*Teens lovely who’s come armed with a song by Anton of Le Kid fame, and Niclas Lundin. All three names get our interest piqued anyway, so put together, we’re anticipating this very much!
The Playtones – ‘The King’ (Fredrik Kempe and Peter Kvint)
Normally, The Playtones aren’t the kind of dansband that we like – they seem to favour rock-a-billy nonsense. However, with Kempe and Kvint at the helm, this is another one that we’re quite looking forward to. And The Playtones have already proved popular with the Swedish televoting public, having won Dansbandskampen in 2009.
Shirley’s Angels – ‘I Thought It Was Forever’ (Robin Abrahamsson, Alexander Bard, Bobby Ljunggren and Henrik Wikström)
Christ almighty, we’re looking forward to this spectacle so much that we’re almost wetting ourselves in excitement!
Sebastian – ‘No One Else Could’ (Andreas Alfredsson Grube and Sebastian Karlsson)
Former Idol contestant launches his comeback with this. The last time he participated in Melodifestivalen, he qualified directly to the final. So he must be quite fancied to perform well on Saturday.
Sara Varga – ‘Spring För Livet’ (Sara Varga and Fredrik Boström)
Girls with guitars have done very well at Melodifestivalen recently. We can see this standing out to the Swedish public, like Pernilla Andersson’s ‘Desperados’ did in Heat 1 a few weeks back.
Eric Saade – ‘Popular’ (Fredrik Kempe)
The absolute star of last year’s Melodifestivalen has got the best song in this year’s contest according to many. Both it, and its performance are going to blow everything else out of the water apparently. And we can’t wait to see the splash! The song was produced by an uncredited Peter Boström, who has won the last two Melodifestivalen heats with his work on Danny and Sanna Nielsen’s song.
