Heat 1 is over and done with already, so it’s now time to move on to and obsess over eight new songs and artists. Below is the list of participants who’ll compete in Gothenburg this weekend. Clips from the rehearsals will be online on Thursday, we’ll be uploading our review from the rehearsals on the Friday, and you can watch the whole thing live on Saturday.
……………………………………………………………..
Brolle: ‘7 Days and 7 Nights’ (Brolle)
This guy has got quite a large fanbase and is considered a favourite to qualify, in these early stages. We like him (perhaps for all the wrong reasons) and we hope that we like his song too!
Loreen: ‘My Heart Is Refusing Me’ (Moh Denebi, Björn Djupström, Loreen Talhaoui)
Måns Zelmeröw endorsed (she’s signed to his record label), Loreen described this song to us as organic house, organic electro, and with a lot of strings, Björk like.
Babsan : ‘Ge Mig En Spanjor’ (Larry Forsberg, Sven-Inge Sjöber, Lennart Wastesson)
We’ll be disappointed if this isn’t anything but camp, shameless, clichéd schlager. And we don’t think we’ll be disappointed.
Elisabeth Andreassen: ‘Vaken I En Dröm’ (Lars “Dille” Diedricson, Calle Kindbom, Kristian Wejshag)
Traditional schlager ballad. The fact that it’s the first of the contest, and the only one in this heat, should give Elisabeth an advantage.
Sanna Nielsen: ‘I’m In Love’ (Bobby Ljunggren, Thomas G:son, Irini Michas, Peter Boström)
Uptempo schlager from the homecoming Queen with a score to settle. With those songwriters involved, we can’t imagine this being anything less than amazing.
The Moniker: ‘Oh My God!’ (The Moniker)
Originally famous through Idol, but we get the feeling that this will be the polar opposite.
Anniela: ‘Elektrisk’ (Johan Alkenäs, Tim Larsson, Tobias Lundgren, Johan Fransson)
Anniela described this to us last year as pop, club, and electro. And we’re perfectly happy with that description.
Christian Walz – ‘Like Suicide’ (Fernando Fuentes, Henrik Janson, Tony Nilsson, Christian Walz)
Perhaps the biggest ‘name’ this week. And while that doesn’t always guarantee success in Melodifestivalen, the fact that the song is co-written by Henrik Janson and Tony Nilsson makes us feel quite optimistic about its chances.
