Precisely this week, 12 years ago, Icelandic popstar Alda made a bid for the UK Christmas Number 1 spot with the below song;
It was never a serious contender of course, but it did end up making a respectable number 20 in Christmas week. A good showing considering that fellow scandipopstars, Aqua, who were huge in the UK in 1998, also released a single that week and it only finished two places higher than Alda.
This year, she’s back in the same race. And it’s her first UK release since the above ‘Girls Night Out’. We wrote about ‘The Boobie Song’ (!) last month, and it’s finally released in the UK this week. This time around, it’s even less of a contender for Christmas number 1, and will be lucky to make the Christmas top 200! But we wanted to mention it again for a few reasons;
1. All proceeds go towards breast cancer research
2. Alda launches a PROPER music comeback in the New Year, which we’ll be telling you more about in January
3. It’s Alda, and she’s clearly amazing! Even if this song isn’t.
The ridiculous song has been given a cheap and cheerful, and equally ridiculous video, featuring lots of tits! And you can watch it below. Although you may need to be logged into youtube to view it, because of age restrictions they’ve put on it. (!!!)
