What’s this? New music from Swedish artist Zikai, which takes a surprising yet familiar turn when it gets to the chorus. Her new single ‘Hero’.
What’s surprising and what’s familiar? For the first part of the chorus, she borrows a couple of lines from Bonnie Tyler’s iconic hit ‘Holding Out For A Hero’. And then for the rest of the chorus, she carries the melody forward with her own lyrics.
And the result? A pretty damn fine r&b tune that is enhanced even further by its decision to lean into and take sparingly from classic rock. Zikai’s own ‘Hero’ ends up being great enough to become a classic in its own right.
More from Zikai? Earlier in the year she provided us with another gorgeous tune – ‘Stay This Way‘.
