Last night’s Dansbandskampen was the best yet of the series. It was Melodifestivalen songs aplenty, all performed with entertaining gusto by the dansbands. It was the perfect example of the absolute joy that draws us someway into this genre. Although of course, there were also some low points too. Which is perhaps becoming in itself another charm of this whole spectacle every week!
Elisa’s probably gave the performance of the night, singing Charlotte Nilsson’s ‘Tusen Och En Natt’. It stayed totally true to the original, no dansband re-arrangement was needed of course. And Elisa gave a fantastic vocal throughout, up there with Charlotte’s. And once again, she proved herself to be such a charming performer. That smile of hers is adorable! Our other favourites, CC & Lee, did Ola’s ‘Natalie’. And very well at that. Bounding around the stage with their usualy chemistry. Oh we love them! Vocals were on form as always too.
Jeppez & The Cowboys did a country music version of one of our least favourite songs ever – Sandi Thom’s ‘I Wish I Was A Punkrocker’. So there wasn’t much to write home about there unfortunately. Although we do have a HUGE crush on the singer! Pure Divine brought the amazing music back with a great slow-ish version of ‘Kom Hem’ by Barbados. It came complete with an OTT (in a good way) build up to the key change. And the notes attempted and achieved in the final chorus were ace!
The next two songs were dansband re-arrangements of two schlager favourites. Donnez took on Shirley Clamp’s ‘Min Kärlek’, and Patrik’s Combo did Eric Saade’s ‘Manboy’. Both very different from the much loved originals. But both highly enjoyable too, and a bit of fun.
We weren’t a fan of the Wizex performance or song really. Nope! Although it seemed to be a favourite of the dancers in the arena. Finally, Willez had the somewhat difficult task of turning Caroline Af Ugglas’ ‘Snälla Snälla’ into a dansband number. And they did alright with it, but it wasn’t anything amazing unfortunately. Nice enough though.
In the end it was Jeppez & The Cowboys that were sent home this week, in a nail biting bottom two showdown that also featured CC & Lee!
