Who? A successful songwriter from Sweden who is now going out into the world with his very own solo career. Meet Aron Blom, and more specifically, his debut single ‘Low Low Low’.
What’s it like? It’s something we fell for on first listen. Like, even by the time the first chorus had finished. It’s a big tune, and therefore an excellent introduction to him. As well as the mammoth pop melody that he gifts upon us, there’s also a loud undercurrent of soul. Demonstrated not just in the song itself, but in that vocal of his too. We’re already looking forward to hearing a lot more from him. And that’s always a good sign.
And what does Aron say? Quite a lot, actually. Have you got a couple of minutes?
Yeah, go on. Ok, here we go: “In one way ‘Low Low Low’ is about the diametrically opposite thoughts we have in our heads simultaneously. Meaning, we feel stuff but we also feel the opposite at the same time. I feel fear and anxiety over stuff, big and small, but I can also turn it around and feel a lot of hope and curiosity, depending how I look at it. There is darkness in everything, and there is light as well. Except maybe black holes. There is a lot of shit going on in the world. But as history’s shown, there’s always been a lot of shit going on in the world. Some things will get better, other things perhaps won’t. And even what’s considered ”better” I guess will change. The lyric ”When the heaven drops, up and down, inside out, then we go low” … It means when shit hits the fan, we’ll figure it out, and work with what we’ve got. It’s also a distorted version of Michelle Obama’s quote, ”When they go low, we go high”. I figured, if “high” is off the table, then fuck it, let’s go low.”
