Alphabeat have inexplicably been dropped by EMI in the UK. Despite selling around 100,000 albums and 500,000 singles this year, they’ve been released from their deal. In fairness, it’s lot more to do with the sinking ship that is EMI, as opposed to Alphebeat themselves, but it’s still a blow for the band. EMI have been in trouble for quite some time now, and the takeover by private equity firm Terra Firma last year, hasn’t given the company the turnaround that it was expecting. Things have only got worse, and Alphabeat are the latest casualty. However, it’s widely expected that they’ll get signed up by another record label, or perhaps they may even set up their own label. Either way, we very much doubt that it will be the last we hear of Alphabeat.
