It seems that Le Kid have been bubbling under for AGES now. But with ‘Mercy Mercy’ now a genuine radio hit in Sweden, and ‘We Should Go Home Together’ announced as the new single, it does now feel that they’ve properly arrived. Coverage of the band has been high here in Sweden over the last month, and ‘Mercy Mercy’ got it’s first tv performance the weekend before last, on Sommarkrysset.
They performed both ‘Mercy Mercy’ and ‘We Should Go Home Together’ at Stockholm Pride last weekend. It was our first time seeing them live (we ducked out of Sommarkrysset due to the hellish rain!) and we were mightily impressed, as were most of the rest of the crowd too. ‘Mercy Mercy’ is practically ancient by now to those who have followed them from the beginning, but seeing them perform it live brought a kind of a freshness back into it – for us anyway. ‘We Should Go Home Together’, whilst not our first choice for follow up single, did seem to go down very well with everyone. It’s quite sing-a-long, hand clappable, chanty. And it’s a whole lot of fun too. And obviously there’s the attraction of the mischief in the lyrics too.
You can hear the new single below, as some live footage has been uploaded to youtube. But the uploader has also gone to the extra effort of dubbing in some better quality sound from the studio version – we all know how annoying mobile phone recordings usually are! So it’s quite good footage if you’re a fan, or if you’re curious about what the next single will be.
Below that is their uber camp performance of ‘Mercy Mercy’ from Sommarkrysset, featuring an actual synchronized swimming routine, and a member of the band playing in a blow up swimming pool! Amazing.
