For us, one of the most enduring images of Nordic pop music from the late 90s was the high-volume, blonde dreadlocked woman from Iceland high-kicking and skipping her way through the video for her debut single ‘Real Good Time’. Alda hit the UK Top 10 back in the summer of 1998 with the super-catchy and bubblegum-brassy slice of pop rock. And neither the chorus – nor the sight of that hair – have left our memory since.
Twenty years later and Alda herself feels it’s time to revisit the song. And clearly to re-imagine it also. This time around as a slightly gothic rock ballad. And a morose re-telling of the real good time she’s apparently having. We’re always here for artists celebrating their earlier work. Particularly if they’re gonna go to the effort of doing a whole new recording of the song, AND head out into the Icelandic wilderness to film a video for it.
