Swedish artist Eric Saade has been enjoying something of an international resurgence in his career over the past couple of months. You’ll remember that he reinvented himself musically earlier in the year, turning his hand to synthpop. ‘Colors’ was and still is completely brilliant. But it’s the follow-up single ‘Wide Awake’ that has really taken off for him outside of Sweden. Remixed by Russian production duo Filatov & Karas, the Red Remix has went from being a staple on the radios of Russia and Ukraine, to a big hit on the Shazam charts, before turning into an actual hit on the actual charts. The mix and the accompanying video have been geo-blocked for a while, but over the weekend he finally went and released the single and video worldwide. It’s already picking up a bit of traction in Germany and Italy, and we’re hoping that things continue upwards for the song and for him. He took a massive risk changing his sound so much, but he’s pulled it off in terms of quality and so it must be a huge relief for him that people are listening.
