If you’ve not been following all of the Nordic national finals for the Eurovision Song Contest, then you might have missed one gem in particular from the region. And we’d hate for you to bypass it, blissfully unaware of the sheer brilliance that you’re missing out on. It’s ‘Laika’, by The Hungry Hearts featuring Lisa Dillan – which competed in Norway’s Melodi Grand Prix on Saturday night. A ridicumazing piece of music that sounds like three ridiculous (and amazing) songs merged together. A chanting, militant electrotrash anthem about lost lesbian love on the streets of Moscow. It’s just brilliant. Sadly, the Norwegians weren’t feeling in a cheeky enough mood on Saturday night, and they voted for this song to represent them instead. But ‘Laika’ has already reached cult classic status, joining the ranks of these ten iconic Melodic Grand Prix performances from the last ten years.
