This is their first ever TV performance isn’t it? It is! Last week they finally got to perform their debut single ‘Never Gonna Say I’m Sorry’ on Swedish television. It was their first TV performance, and only their second time ever performing together.
Exciting. And what can we take from this performance. WELL. In fairness, not a lot – as they’re young ‘uns and it’s their first time. But let’s make some observations anyway, shall we? Yes.
What kind of performance was it? As we all know by now, A*Base are to Ace of Base what A*Teens were to ABBA. And they’ve taken that through to their performance too, which was of course more A*Teens than it was Ace of Base. Think back to the early A*Teens videos. The choreography, the formations – it’s all very reminiscent of that. And we LOVE that about them.
And the members themselves? The brunette girl is the obvious star of the group in this performance. The way she performed to the camera looked like she’d been doing it from 9 to 5, Monday to Friday, ever since she first enrolled into stage school. She gets it, and she’s got it. Blonde girl initially looked terrified. Like, really terrified. But actually managed to turn that into a bit of an art form itself, by holding that same icy, nonchalant, glare on her face until the end of the song – so much so that she almost looked above it all by the last note. ICON. And as for the two chaps, well they were just LOVING every second – in particular the two seconds they were allowed to be at the front. And Christ did they make those two seconds count. In short, the whole performance was on the hotter side of Hot Mess. We love A*Base a little bit more after it, and we hope they’re around for longer than A*Teens were.
Wow. Oh sorry, we forgot to say – they can actually sing too, which is always nice.
