Why has Laleh covered an ABBA song? It’s for charity.
Yeah but why has she picked ‘Chiquitita’? WELL. Did you know – ever since 1979, ABBA have donated 50% of all royalties earned on ‘Chiquitita’ to UNICEF. Now Laleh has decided to do her bit for UNICEF and is breathing some new life into the song, to send more royalties their way.
What’s she done with it? Produced and arranged the whole thing herself. She’s obviously not changed it too dramatically. Just put her own spin on it. It’s quite haunting now. And a bit gorgeous.
I wonder what Agnetha thinks of it. Here’s what Agnetha herself says about it; “In her own personal way, talented Laleh has given us a completely new Chiquitita. With a voice that expresses so many shades of joy, sadness and even more. A fantastic fantasy arrangement”.
