This is what we like. Super catchy debut singles from smiley popstars. And this one is particularly adorable – ‘My Shoes’ by Emma Olivia.
Emma is a wee one at a mere fourteen years of age. But while ‘My Shoes’ is still obviously teen pop, it’s a little bit more mature than what you would expect from a 14 year old girl. It has more in common with Carly Rae-Jepsen, than something you’d see at Junior Eurovision Song Contest for example.
Although perhaps our argument for maturity is flattened somewhat by the song’s main chorus lyric – “Oh my God, I really really really like you, I’ve been writing your name on my shoes“. Yeah.
This is catchy as sin, and we’ve been humming it a lot over the last few days. But it’s not all about the stonking great pop melody here. It’s produced quite brilliantly too, and very sparsely at that. It’s basically all about a great beat and a ukulele – which Emma actually plays herself.
Emma is Finnish but currently lives in LA, hence the strong American accent in the song.
