The Eurovision song contest 2014 is just around the corner. Even though many are excited to see the bad, the worse and the ugly, there are some acts around this year that might actually blow your socks off in a good way. However, many people will watch just to make fun of the bad acts. You might be surprised to know though that many Scandinavian countries have taken a new perspective on the Eurovision song contest in the past few years and, instead of sending out funny Eurovision songs, they have started to send out respectable, highly valued artists that have amazing stage charisma and ability to wow viewers with their talent. This year is not an exception.
Sweden is going in with a strong female lead
Sweden is also going to participate this year and they will send out a female singer Sanna Nielsen with her song “Undo”. Sanna Nielsen was selected for Sweden’s entry from the Melodifestivalen 2014. She was chosen out of 32 songs in a six week long process that consisted of four semi-finals. Sanna Nielsen got most of viewers’ votes but was only the second best for the jury, as a song from Ace Wilder, “Busy Doin’ Nothin’”, got most of the jury votes, but lost in viewers’ votes. Sanna Nielsen’s song is a beautiful and strong ballad that reminds some people the ever-famous “Let It Go” from Disney’s Frozen. We will see if it is enough to warm the hearts of Eurovision enthusiasts…
Finland wows with solid rock-pop
Finland hasn’t had much of a success in the Eurovision Song Contest in the last few years. This year Finland could surprise many since their act features high-quality manly rock-pop that might be well-liked by even those of us that cannot usually stand Eurovision songs. The band Softengine got some great reviews from the critics for their song “Something Better”, but it is up to the European people to decide if Helsinki will host the Eurovision Song Contest in 2015.
Norway is going to please with a ballad
Norway is going to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 with a song called “Silent Storm” from Carl Espen. This artist was selected in Melodi Grand Prix 2014 contest. The song is a modern ballad about love that is characterised with strong emotion and a beautiful piano melody. There is no question that Carl Espen is a great singer and he will definitely touch many hearts – however, the song might be a bit too soppy to win the hearts of Europe’s viewers. We shall see…
Denmark’s happy song
Denmark is the proud host of Eurovision 2014 due to winning last year with their chosen song “Only Teardrops” from Emmelie de Forest. This year they are going into a different direction with a song called “Cliche Love Song” from a guy called Basim. The song is a happy pop song with a hint of Bruno Mars and Jackson 5. It will surely get the Eurovision crowd dancing and cheering, whilst making sure that Denmark does not need to host another contest next year.
Many interesting acts this year and it is definite that Eurovision crowd will get an amazing final. Will the winner be one of the Scandinavian acts – it will be determined on 10th of May. Who will you vote for?
