If anyone’s in the market for a dramatic electroballad with a whiff of Scandinavia, then you are – predictably – in the correct place here on Scandipop. Today it’s Helena Johansson who is delivering the goods. The lead single, ‘In Your Eyes’, to be taken from her new EP ‘From The Ground Up’.
‘In Your Eyes’ is an emotionally wrought belter with a touch of the theatrics to it. Although any cheesiness that a song described as an “emotional, theatrical belter” might otherwise fall victim to, is reined in by a lush electro production that at times comes off like a slowed down trip-hop track. She glosses it with a layer of Nordic iced cool. And the end result is a bit of both a spell-binder and a spine-tingler. We’ve been paying a fair bit of attention to it this morning.
Regular readers of Scandipop may remember Helena’s name and pipes from when we wrote about ‘My Kind Of Love’ late last year. And that’s also featured on the new EP.
