It’s been an absolute age since we last heard from Jonas Oakland. Well, since January anyway. The Southern Swedish boy with the penchant for dancepop returns next week though, with new single ‘What Happens On The Dancefloor (Stays On The Dancefloor)’. That’s a great pop song title right there.
And with a title like that, you get what you would expect – a darker dancepop sound. This one is anchored by a throbbing synth hook that forms the foundations of the song’s chorus. Simplistic, and comfortingly instant, it’s the part of the song that you’re going to be humming afterwards – despite warnings from Jonas to leave it on the dancefloor.
We asked the young pop squire for his own take on the song. “The idea was to create a more rough sound, like Ke$ha’s ‘Blow’ or Lady Gaga’s ‘Sheiße’, something I haven’t done before. The song is about letting loose and not caring about the consequences. It’s like a free haven where everything goes and when all is back to normal you all have this pact that whatever happened out there, stays out there“.
‘What Happens On The Dancefloor (Stays On The Dancefloor)’ is released worldwide on Monday.
