Swedish Idol alumni Robin Bengtsson has today released a new single, his first in quite some time.
‘Cross The Universe’ is a megarrific, mid-tempo, pop/rock ballad. It’s uplifting to the highest and with a fantastic melody for its chorus, making it catchier than sin and giving it something of an anthemic sheen. It’s really ALL about that chorus. One listen and it’s in there, right inside your head, for good.
Robin is most famous in Sweden for appearing the 2008 season of Swedish Idol, finishing third behind Kevin Borg and Alice Svensson. Actually Robin, if you’re reading this, could you ask Alice to get a move on and release another Pitchline produced masterpiece please? Ta.
As coincidence would have it, Robin is actually one of three Swedish Idol graduates to release new singles today, along with Amanda Fondell’s ‘Bastard’ and Robin Stjernberg’s ‘Scars’. The latter two of course finished winner and first runner up in the most recent season of Idol, so it speaks volumes that it’s Robin Bengtsson’s ‘Cross The Universe’ which is charting higher than the other two on Swedish iTunes at the time of writing this. Although actually, knowing Swedish iTunes sales figures, it may just be a case of Robin B having a few more Facebook friends to mobilise on the first day of release. Time will tell. Either way though, kudos to the fellow for getting back into the top 3 ahead of some big competition, after being away for so long.
The song was written by Robin himself, along with Linnea Deb, Joy Deb, and as it happens – the aforementioned Robin Stjernberg! It’s available to listen to in full below, and Robin’s also released it outside of Sweden too – purchase link below.
