Finland is now the proud owner of their very own sixties pastiche dolly. It seems like the world has fallen in love with early-twenty-something pretty blonde ladies creating their own version of the sixties pop/soul sound. The UK has Duffy, Sweden has Amanda Jenssen, and now Finland has Anna Puu. Like Amanda, Anna came second in her country’s Idol television show, but ended up going down the more ‘credible’ (urgh, we hate that word, but sometimes there’s no other choice but to use it) route and having the more successful album. It went straight to number one in Finland and has already gone gold. And the single, ‘C’est La Vie’ has become a huge hit, both sales wise and on the radio, soundtracking the Finnish summer. It should be noted though, that ‘C’est La Vie’ is NOT a cover of the Hanson, Carson & Malmqvist classic!
We haven’t heard the album yet but we’ll certainly be investigating thanks to the promise of ‘C’est La Vie’. It’s catchy, quite beautiful, and dreamy. AND it’s got monster bells on it!
