The Youngblood boys have announced what their new single is going to be. Sweden’s number 1 boyband now that E, M, and particularly D are all concentrating on their own projects at the moment, will released ‘American Girlfriend’ as their next single.
Youngblood went to London last week to shoot the video for it – at the same time London based boyband One Direction where in Youngblood’s base, Stockholm. And to the untrained (in the sounds of Youngblood) ear, one might think that ‘American Girlfriend’ is a One Direction sound-a-like. However, it probably has more in common with Youngblood’s debut single ‘Blame It On You’ which was released at the end of last year. It’s a pop rock number with a powerful punch to it. And it’s true – it probably wouldn’t sound out of place on One Direction’s current record either.
The song is taken from their debut album ‘Running Home To You’, which has been selling consistantly well since its release three months ago. This week it climbed back up another six places on the Swedish album chart and back into the top 20, outlasting most of the albums that were released by their fellow Melodifestivalen artists at the same time. That’s largely due to the fact that the chaps have been out working hard every weekend, and doing signings up and down the country. But the album’s longevity is not without merit too – it’s a great collection of strong pop songs. So hooray for them.
